The federal government of Canada – through Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada [IRCC] – has held the latest draw under the Express Entry system.

On May 26, 2021, Express Entry Draw #189 had 500 Canada immigration hopefuls invited to apply that had a nomination under the Provincial Nominee Program [PNP].

This is the 4th Express Entry draw to be held in May 2021. The previous Express Entry draw was held on May 20, 2021.

An Overview of Express Entry Draw #189

Invitations issued by date [May 26] 38,200 [in 2020] | 68,817 [in 2021]

Applying to Canadian permanent residence, through the Express Entry system, is by invitation-only. It is the highly-ranked candidates that are issued invitations in the IRCC draws held from time to time. The ranking of candidates in the Express Entry pool is based on the Comprehensive Ranking System [CRS], allotted out of a maximum of 1,200 points. As the latest Express Entry draw was PNP-only, the minimum CRS requirement was that of 731 points.

A PNP nomination in itself fetches 600 CRS points for an Express Entry candidate.

With a tie-breaking rule applied, IRCC gives precedence to profiles created at an earlier date as compared to those entered into the Express Entry pool later. In the present Express Entry Draw #189, those with at least a CRS score of 713 and with a PNP nomination received an Invitation to Apply [ITA] from IRCC, provided they had created their profile before the date and time of the tie-breaking rule applied.

With the latest IRCC draw, a total of 68,817 have been invited in the 19 draws held so far in 2021.

Permanent residence applications submitted through the Express Entry have a standard processing time of within 6 months.
