On contrary to the popular belief that Indian students are no longer welcomed in the UK, Britain's Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills, Vince Cable clarified that Indian students are always welcome to the UK.
He said that Indian students are the highest there and that the wrong perception has led to a fall in the number of people seeking UK student visa for higher education. He added that, "The UK government did tighten rules to stop certain abuses and also acted against illegal universities, but Indian students are most welcome and can stay on in the UK if they get jobs."
Cable explained that there is no cap as such to limit Indian students, and there is also a provision for the students to work for three years after their graduation if they find a job that pays a salary of £20,000 per annum.
UK will offer a scholarship of over £2.4 million to more than 150 Indian students and present 500 Great awards for grad and undergrad students from law, medical, engineering, business, arts, and various other programs.
UK has highest number of visa operations in India from 12 visa centers. Statistics show that over 400,000 applications for work visa, visit visa, and student visas were processed in the year 2013, and about 90% applications were successful.
