Under the new rules, international students can obtain residency in Finland without the need to complete the required residency period, unlike the ongoing rule. Finland aims to attract more students in highly-skilled sectors to boost the country’s economy and increase the labor workforce.

Some of the major changes included in the proposal are as follows:

Foreign nationals can acquire permanent resident permits if they have:

  • An annual income of a minimum of €40,000
  • Two years of professional work experience
  • Completed postgraduate or master’s degree
  • Sound knowledge of Swedish or the Finnish languages, along with 3 years of work experience.
