The Directorate-General for Foreigners in France has provided the data for the issuance of first residence work permits in 2021. According to the data, 270,925 first residence permits were issued. The total number of work permits issued in 2021 was 370,569 if British are included.
As per the DGEF, the work permits issued in 2021 increased by 21.4 in comparison to 2020. According to a report, the number of visas requested rose up to 12.9 percent and the number of visas issued rose up to 2.9 percent in comparison to 2020.

The data has revealed that the number of asylum applications has also increased. The statistics report shows that in the asylum applications, the number of first requests was 104,381 and the number of requests to be reconsidered was 16,987. These requests were made at one-stop asylum application desks.
Besides this, 103,164 asylum applications have also been registered by French Office for the Protection of Refugees and Stateless Persons. In comparison to 2020, the asylum applications have increased by 7 percent.
The report has also stated that 130,385 former thor-nationals have become new French citizens. In comparison to 2020, the number has increased by 53.6 percent. According to the census data 2020, the population of France is 67.3 million and 5.1 million people are foreigners.
