Fraud Immigration Agents under scanner of Australian Parliament inquiry

Fraud Immigration Agents who destroy the immigration aspirations of immigrant hopefuls to Australia will now be scrutinized by an Australian Parliament inquiry. The investigation has commenced from 27 June 2018 in Canberra.

The inquiry into Fraud Immigration Agents follows a joint investigation by Fairfax-SBS. It revealed that gullible immigrants were incurring losses of 1000s of dollars. This is because they fall prey to unscrupulous agents functioning in the sector, as quoted by the SBS.

Immigration Agents in Australia cannot offer migration advice unless they are Registered Migration Agents. If they do so, it is illegal. On the other hand, Home Affairs Department has received complaints and evidence as well that some agents are offering illegal migration services.

The Australian Parliament inquiry comes even as there are increased numbers of complaints in the immigration industry. This is as per the figures of the DHA.

DHA said that there is a valid threat posed by the Fraud Immigration Agents who are unregistered and corrupt. This includes organized criminal groups taking advantage of the flaws in the existing system. These views were expressed by DHA to the inquiry by the Parliament.

Home Affairs Department has said that evidence and information sharing powers need to be altered. The existing arrangement was a major obstacle in the investigation of fraudulent behavior by immigration agents, it added.

The changes will facilitate pacing up the investigation and obtain quick results against allegations of fraud explained the DHA.
