German Citizenship Application 2024-2025

According to recent reports by the Department S of the State Office for Immigration (LEA), the capital city of Berlin alone welcomed 21,000 citizens in 2024. The Head of the Naturalisation Department, Wiebke Gramm, recently commented that Germany is planning to issue 40,000 naturalizations in 2025.
 

Gramm has proposed a plan of issuing 3000 naturalisation per month to meet the naturalisation target set for 2025. The Department is to have 40 additional employees to speed up the process of issuing German citizenship to foreign workers and immigrants.

New Citizenship Law Leading to Increase in Number of Citizenship Applications

Germany has implemented some major changes in 2024 and acquiring German citizenship has become easier with the new law from June 27, 2024. Under the new law, citizenship applicants will have to wait for a shorter period for their application to be processed.
 

The new law allows German citizenship applicants to retain their original nationality, provided they meet the requirements and other conditions specified. Following the launch of the new citizenship law, Germany has reported receiving around 6,000 naturalization applications in the latter half of 2024.
