A total of 200,100 people received German citizenship in 2023, accounting for the highest number of citizenships registered since 2000. Around 157 different nationalities benefited from German citizenship. The Federal Statistical Office of Germany revealed that 2023’s statistics show a 19% increase from 2022’s statistics.
A total of 168,545 people living in Germany received citizenship in 2022. Around 12 million people living in Germany do not hold a German passport. Out of these, nearly 5.3 million people have been living in Germany for at least ten years.

In the first four months of 2023, around 6,869 requests for naturalization were sent by citizens of Israel with German ancestors. Germany received 5,670 applications in 2022 and 9,129 applications in 2023.
The German government said that it plans to launch a new advertising campaign to provide detailed information about the procedures for applying for German citizenship.
The government of Germany has applied new changes to improve the citizenship process for children born to foreign parents in Germany by reducing the residence for a parent from eight to five years.
