An e-platform named the Consular Services Portal has been launched by the German government to digitize and facilitate the visa application process for German national visas. Immigrants willing to apply for German employment visas, study permits, or family reunification programs can use this system.
The Consular Services Portal is linked with 167 visa offices to reduce waiting times at embassies and consular offices. Germany is also planning to expand the digitized visa application process at international levels to allow candidates to apply digitally.

The German Foreign Minister has opined that the launch of the Services Portal is a revolutionary move as it is likely to address issues related to the labor shortage in Germany. The Foreign Affairs Office (BAA) has launched a pilot project on three visa application spots after working on this tool for more than two years.
According to a recent report, Germany Seeks 288,000 Foreign Workers Annually Until 2040, and currently, there are more than 400,000 job vacancies across various sectors. Germany is looking for skilled workers, especially from India. The country has even decided to issue 22,422 more work visas in 2025. The Skilled Immigration Act and the launch of the Germany Opportunity Card are also aimed at attracting foreign workers to migrate to Germany.
