Germany removes quarantine for fully vaccinated Indians

Germany lifts up travel bans for India, Nepal, Russia, the U.K., and Portugal. Germany has lifted travel bans for Indian travelers, which is hit by a severe wave of Covid-19 and led by the delta variant.

The German ambassador to India, Walter J Lindner, announced the changes in the travel ban and was made effective from 7th July 2021.

Indian travelers who are fully vaccinated (people who received both the doses of vaccine), or who can submit the proof of recovery from Covid-19, can skip the quarantine on the entry or return as per the changed guidelines.

Lindner tweet

"From tomorrow, Germany is removing the entry ban and easing travel rules for five countries where Delta variant is widespread, including India," Lindner said in his tweet.

These changes were made after reclassifying India as "high-incidence areas," downgraded from the list of 'virus variant countries'.

India is hit drastically by the second wave of Covid-19 during April-May, and hence Germany restricted the entry of travelers from India under preventive measures. During the end of April 2021, India is classified as a 'virus variant area' followed by Nepal and in May, the U.K. On June 29, 2021, EU countries Portugal and Russia were added to the list.

The changes were made as the fall academic session is set to commence in Germany. Many Indian students have applied to pursue their education in Germany. But the major backlog in the visa application will make the process longer compared to past times.
