GTS to help Australian employers to hire highly skilled overseas talents

Australian employers will now be assisted by the Global Talent Scheme for hiring highly skilled overseas talents. This is a new pilot plan under the TSS Visa program. It has commenced from 1 July 2018 and will run for 1 year.

The GTS has been initiated on a pilot basis. This will permit the government to make improvements in consultation with Australian employers. It is to ensure that the GTS achieves its purpose, as quoted by the SBS.

The GTS is for Australian employers to fill highly skilled job vacancies that cannot be filled by Australian workers. It is also applicable if these positions cannot be filled through other visa programs.

Australian employers must be able to prove their needs for accessing the GTS. After this, they will be invited to sign an agreement with the Government. This will be under the TSS Visa agreement stream. It is only after this the employer will be able to access the GTS for hiring overseas workers.

GTS is available in other instances that require hiring for highly skilled roles. This is inclusive of other Labor Agreements and the standard TSS Visa program. It offers more flexible concessions and faster processing in comparison with other programs.

The chief features of the GTS program are:

Negotiation ability for a variance from standard visa requirements for TSS
Prioritizing of agreement processing
Access to highly skilled roles for trusted employers unrestricted by occupation lists
4 years visa validity and access to Australia PR pathway
Age requirements for PR pathway are negotiable
