Aspiring overseas immigrants to Canada can cheer as Canada has increased its immigration targets for 2019 and 2020. It will also extend its multi-year plan for immigration levels through 2021. The stage has thus been set for the arrival of 1.3 million fresh Canada PR holders over the next 4 years.
The increase in immigration targets was announced by the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada. This was as a part of its report tabled in the Parliament on 31 October, as quoted by the CIC News.
The report also coincides with the 1st anniversary of the multi-year levels plan of the IRCC. This was to guide immigration planning of Canada from 2018 through 2020.
Canada has now increased its immigration targets and extended the plan by another year. Canada will now welcome 1.3 million immigrants. This is through its diverse humanitarian, refugee, family, and economic immigration streams. This will be between the years 2018 and 2021 based on its yearly targets.
The revised immigration plan calls for a gradual increase in immigrants intakes annually. It is now set at 350,000 fresh immigrants in 2021. The targets for 2019 and 2020 have also been enhanced. These are set at 330,000 and 341,000 respectively.
Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Minister of Canada Ahmed Hussen offered details of the plan in his introductory speech. Canada will accept more skilled and talented workers under the new plan, said Hussen. These are those who are needed by the nation’s economy, he added. The revised plan will also reunite more family members, said the Minister.
The federal Express Entry system manages the economic immigration programs of Canada. The PNPs - Provincial Nominee Programs manage the programs of the provinces. Both of them will continue to play crucial roles as per the revised plan for increased immigration targets.
