Canada has allocated an additional 2000 Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) spaces to Immigrants. The Canadian Government announced this initiative on March 12, 2019. The extra spaces would be aimed at Temporary Overseas Workers in Canada.
The PNP lets provinces in Canada to nominate few Immigrants for Canada PR. The program aims at easing the labour market shortage in the country. Every year the provinces select few Immigrants based on the following criteria -
The additional spaces in 2019 would be dedicated to Immigrants with intermediate skills. These are Temporary Overseas Workers who have been staying in Canada to help ease the labour shortage. The skills should fall under the category ‘C’ in the National Occupational Code list.
Ahmed Hussen, Canada’s Minister of Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship has expressed his views. He said that Temporary Workers cater to the labour market needs. Also, they contribute to the economic growth of the country. Hence, it is essential to recognize the need for such Immigrants. The country wants to offer them a chance to attain the Canada PR. The additional spaces in the PNP program will accomplish that, he added.
According to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), this initiative would address the Worker Vulnerability issue. This is a multi-year Immigration levels plan, as quoted by CIC News. They aim at welcoming 61,000 Immigrants for Canada PR. The number has increased by 6,000 from last year. The initiative of allocating 2000 additional spaces is part of this plan.
IRCC has created a new Immigration pathway for Overseas Caregivers as well. This is a temporary program that commenced on March 4, 2019. It will end on June 4, 2019. This is for in-home Overseas Caregivers staying in Canada since November 30, 2014. They are being offered a unique chance to acquire the Canada PR.
