International graduates who studied remotely can now immigrate to B.C. (1)

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, an amendment to the online learning prerequisite has been made. On February 2, the British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP) made the announcement.International student graduates from B.C will now be eligible for the international student immigration categories if they have completed a minimum of 50 percent of their studies from within Canada.

Students who completed a major portion of their studies in Canada and then moved to their home country because of the pandemic might still be eligible to move to the province.

Canada Immigrationeligibility norms apply to two student categories:

  • Completed 50 percent or more studies on-campus and graduated before March 1, 2020.
  • If the graduation date falls on or after March 1, 2020 and they have completed 50 percent or more of their studies while staying in Canada, then the studies needn’t be completed on-campus.

To prove that studies were completed in Canada, documents such as:

  • Bank statements
  • Utility bills

can be submitted.

However, students attending distance education program are not eligible for nomination. The studies should have been completed almost exclusively online.
