Employment growth outpaced population growth

Employment in Canada increased by 41,000 in February and this indeed increased the population growth by 0.3%. Employment increased in few provinces like Alberta, Nova Scotia, Quebec, and Ontario. Employment gains were spread across many industries. Working hours in February was also changed by 0.3% compared to previous 12 months.

Employment rate increases for core-aged women and men

In February, employment increased among 25 to 54 years old women and men. Employment rate of women increased by 0.7% and men was increased by 0.3%. This was the first time employment increased since September 2023. Employment rates were little changed for young people aged 15 to 24 years in February 2024.
