Indians now get visa-free access to 60 countries

Highlights of visa-free access countries

  • Indian passport holders will be able to access 60 countries without having a visa, since March 2022.
  • In a recent chart of passport rankings, the Indian passport ranked 87 out of 199 other passports.

International travel for Indians

After lifting several COVID-related restrictions among the countries for international travel, the Indian passport reacquired its strength. According to a recently released global chart for passport rankings, out of 199 passports, the Indian passport ranked 87.

The Henley Passport Index speaks about the strength of foreign affairs between the countries. Based on these relationships, the Henley Passport Index releases data. Depending on the ease of access that a country offers, the bigger the ranking. This data is gathered for this index obtained from International Air Transport Association (IATA). During the pandemic year 2020, India had only access to 23 countries for travel, whereas now the Indian passport holders are approved to travel visa-free to 60 countries.

The Henley Passport Index publishes this kind of list every quarterly. During the last quarter, India ranked on 83rd position from 90th position in the 2021 rankings.

As Japan topped the list of top 10 countries in the Index, Japanese passport holders have access to 193 countries. In 2020, this list of countries to 76 countries only.
