Canada Immigration Minister Sean Fraser stated that IRCC is hiring 1,250 employees who will help in reducing the backlog of the pending applications. The new employees will also help in reducing the processing times of the applications.
Fraser said that a proper immigration system will support the future of the communities. It will also allow the industries to invite candidates to work in Canada. New business opportunities will also be opened which will help in the growth of the industries and they will remain competitive.

Sean Fraser has made different announcements in April 2022 which led IRCC to recruit new employees. These announcements include the following:
In mid-July 2022, the backlog of the applications increased up to 2.62 million. In the first week of June 2022, the backlog was 2.39 million. The crises in Afghanistan and Ukraine are another reason for the increase of backlog.
Canada launched Canada-Ukraine Authorization for Emergency Travel on March 17 for inviting Ukrainians. The latest figure of the applications is 495,929 out of which, approval has been given to 204,793 on August 17.
By recruiting new employees, IRCC has a hope of processing 80 percent of the applications.
Last year, Canada has welcomed 406,025 permanent residents. In the past seven months of 2022, Canada welcomed 275,000 permanent residents. IRCC has plans to welcome 463,250 new permanent residents by the end of 2022.
The number of work permits issued in 2022 is 349,000 by the end of July. These work permits include 220,000 open work permits which allow the permit holders to work anywhere in Canada. Regarding the study permits, Canada has finalized almost 360,000 study permits from Jan 1 to July 31, 2022.
