In the latest draw held on August 11, the province of British Columbia in Canada has invited 52 tech candidates to apply for a provincial nomination. As per the BC Provincial Nominee Program [PNP], “the BC PNP has issued invitations to apply to qualified registrants with a job offer in the 29 key technology occupations of the BC PNP Tech Pilot”.
Those invited have 30 days for submitting their completed online application.
Launched in 2017, the Tech Pilot of the BC PNP provides a fast-track Canada immigration pathway for in-demand tech workers and international students.
Since its launch, the Tech Pilot has been extended many times. Recently, the BC PNP Tech Pilot was extended until June 2021.
The Tech Pilot is not any separate stream or category as such.
To be considered for the BC PNP Tech Pilot, candidates are required to be registered with any of the existing BC PNP provincial immigration streams, along with having a valid job offer of a minimum of 1 year’s duration in any of the 29 eligible occupations.
So far in 2020, British Columbia has issued invitations to more than 5,000 immigration candidates to apply for a provincial nomination.
Overview of the August 11 BC PNP Tech Pilot draw – Skills Immigration and Express Entry BC – 52 invitations sent
Category | Minimum Score |
EEBC – Skilled Worker | 80 |
EEBC – International Graduate | 80 |
SI – Skilled Worker | 80 |
SI – International Graduate | 80 |
For applying through the categories of Skills Immigration or Express Entry BC, candidates must begin the process by creating their profile through the BC PNP’s online portal, registering under the province’s Skills Immigration Registration System [SIRS].
On evaluation, the applicants are allotted a score based on a range of factors – location of employment in BC, work experience, English proficiency and level of education.
Weekly tech-only draws are held by BC for inviting the highest-scoring technology sector workers to apply for being nominated by the province. A provincial nomination fetches 600 additional points towards the CRS score of a candidate’s Express Entry profile.
By CRS is implied the Comprehensive Ranking System that determines who is issued an Invitation to Apply [ITA] in federal Express Entry draws that are held. The higher the CRS, the sooner the candidate can expect to be invited by IRCC to apply for Canada PR.
