Canada held a new Express Entry draw on 4th March inviting 3900 applicants to apply for Canadian Permanent Residence. The required CRS score in the latest draw was 471; an increase of one point over the last draw.
The previous Express Entry draw on 19th February was the largest ever and invited 4500 applicants for Canada PR. The minimum CRS score in the last draw was 470.
The Federal Express Entry Program is the primary source of skilled immigrants in Canada. The program manages the application pool for Canada’s major economic programs- Federal Skilled Worker Program, Canadian Experience Class and Federal Skilled Trades Class.
The Express Entry Program follows a points-based approach where candidates are scored on the Comprehensive Ranking System. Points are given for factors like age, qualification, work experience, Canadian work experience, language skills in English and French etc. Candidates are then ranked according to their score in the Express Entry Pool. Those who score the most receive an invitation to apply for Canadian Permanent Residency.
The processing time for Canada PR through the Express Entry Program is six months.
Canada has set the intake target for 2020 at 85,800. To meet the goal, IRCC appears to be issuing a large number of invitations in each draw.
The 4th March draw is the fifth Express Entry draw of 2020. So far, Canada has issued 18,700 ITAs this year.
The graph below shows the number of ITAs issued at the same time in the previous years and the intake target for each year.
The tie-break date and time used in the latest draw was 24th February 2020 at 6:02:57 UTC. All applicants who submitted their EOIs before this date and time and scored 471 or more were invited to apply for Canada PR.
Several Express Entry-linked provincial nominee program streams have also been active this year. A provincial nomination can prove valuable as it increases your CRS score by 600 points. The jump in the CRS score guarantees you an ITA in the subsequent draws of the Express Entry Pool.
In the past two weeks, PNPs of Ontario, Alberta, Manitoba, Prince Edward Island, Saskatchewan and British Columbia have invited candidates from the Express Entry Pool to apply for provincial nomination.
