The Massachusetts Institute of Technology has expanded its financial aid program to facilitate undergraduate studies from less wealthy families. Under the updated changes, the university will offer free tuition to undergraduate students with an annual family income of less than $200,000.
The University is also planning to provide added support to students whose family income is less than $100,000. Such students are to receive financial provisions for housing, meals, allowance for books, and other personal necessities.

The new initiative is aimed at making MIT more accessible to talented students and increase affordability of premium institutes in the US. Under the current financial aid program, MIT offers full-tuition scholarships for students whose family earnings are below $140,000. Students with annual family income less than $75,000 receive complete financial assistance from the university.
Students willing to study in the MIT with financial assistance are required to submit MIT’s financial aid application and tax documentation to be eligible. MIT’s President Sally Kornbluth recently commented, “To every student out there who dreams of coming to MIT: Don't let concerns about cost stand in your way."
