Morden’s Community Driven Immigration for Manitoba

Often referred to as the “City of Discovery”, the City of Morden is located in the Pembina Valley region of southern Manitoba. Situated towards the south of Winnipeg, Morden is the eighth largest city in the province.

There are many different routes that lead to Canadian immigration via Morden in Manitoba.

Ways to immigrate to Morden include the Skilled Worker Support Program, the MPNP Business Program, the MPNP Skilled Worker Overseas program etc.

Morden’s Community Driven Immigration Initiative [MCDII], is a support program targeted at those qualifying for permanent residence within Morden through the Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program [MPNP].

Manitoba is among the 9 provinces and 2 territories that are a part of Canada’s Provincial Nominee Program [PNP].

Applicants unable to qualify on their own for applying to the MPNP [for example, with a support letter from a family member or friend], can apply to the MCDII for a support letter.

Around 50 families a year are to be chosen for being supported by the program. 

In addition to an assessment of their minimum qualifications and occupational experience, applicants will be chosen based on their “ability to adapt to climate, culture, and genuine intention on living and working in Morden”.

Preference is to be given to applicants that have “recent experience” in any of the following National Occupational Classification [NOC] Codes –

For protecting the integrity and efficiency of the program, an applicant will have to apply from outside Canada. Exploratory visits without a formal invitation for the same will not be considered.

Eligibility qualifications for MCDII's Skilled Worker Program

For Industrial painters, Mechanics, Cooks, Welders and/or those with TEF/TCF French language ability equivalent to CLB5+ More than 2 years’ experience in any of the target occupations Recent “general IELTS test with a minimum score of 5 in each band or CLB5+ equivalency in french TEF/TCF” Age – between 21 and 45 No other connection – through education, previous employment, friends, family – to the other parts of Canada Completion of post-secondary education or training program of a minimum of 1 year duration Meet the Settlement Funds requirement as per the MPNP No Express Entry profile required

All other occupations At least 2 years’ full-time work experience within the previous 5 years in a target occupation A valid Express Entry profile between the ages of 21 and 45 No other connection – through education, previous employment, friends, family – to the other parts of Canada Completion of post-secondary education or training program of a minimum of 1 year duration Meet the Settlement Funds requirement as per the MPNP

Applications that do not meet the minimum qualification requirement will not be considered for the MCDII.

Basic step-wise application process

STEP 1: Determining whether a candidate qualifies for the program

STEP 2: Applying

STEP 3: If chosen, the candidate will be invited to come to Morden for an exploratory visit

STEP 4: During the visit, the candidate can research Morden while preparing for interview [held with an MPNP officer towards the end of the visit]

STEP 5: If found to be a good fit for MCDII following the interview, the candidate will be issued an invitation to apply to the MPNP.

STEP 6: Apply online, after returning home.

STEP 7: Nomination letter by the MPNP, if found eligible.

STEP 8: Apply for the federal processing of Canada permanent residence

STEP 9: Review by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada [IRCC].

STEP 10: Receiving Canada PR. Now, the candidate can make arrangements to move to Morden with family.

All the minimum eligibility criteria must continue to be met by the candidate at the time of their exploratory visit to Morden.
