New Brunswick in Canada needs more immigrants

Blaine Higgs, the Premier of New Brunswick, wants to increase the population of the province to 1 million by 2040.
 

During an annual speech, Premier Higgs discussed the ageing population of the province and the workforce shortage that the province struggles with.
 

New Brunswick had released its “Population Growth Strategy” last summer. The strategy says that New Brunswick would create 120,000 new jobs in the next ten years. The provincial government also wants to increase the number of newcomers settling in the province to 7,500 per year by 2024. However, Higgs said that he would be pushing to increase the immigration target to 10,000 per year.
 

Premier Higgs also said that New Brunswick is opening new offices in India and Europe to promote immigration to New Brunswick among foreign skilled workers and investors.
