Nova Scotia has set a record in issuing permanent residency to immigrants in 2021. This province in Canada attracted immigrants in 2021 with good facilities in education, the trades, healthcare, hospitality, and transportation.
According to Jill Balser, the Nova Scotia Immigration minister, “New immigrant support towards the growth of economy of the province. They create new jobs and businesses. The immigrants help in filling up the labor gaps. They also contribute to the culture and diversity in the province's communities.”
The minister also adds that Nova Scotia is multiplying with the help of planned growth. It creates many opportunities for people migrating to Canada.
The data from 2019 to 2021 has shown an increase in the issuing of permanent residency. Nova Scotia witnessed a 75.8% increase the number of immigrants in 2020. The data is sourced from IRCC (Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada).
Jill Balser, is optimistic that Nova Scotia will attract and retain talent from all over the globe to add to their province and create economic growth. In the first ten months of 2021, it added ten new immigrant entrepreneurs with the help of Self-Employed and Start-up Business program.

In 2020, Ottawa had opened new paths for permanent residency. It was for the temporary residents. It was aimed to tackle labor shortages in Canada. They did it with a program for a short term program and accepted ninety thousand applications.
This act in 2020 also helped Nova Scotia gain 395 permanent residents by October. In 2021, the province’s Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) was the second-most effective way for newcomers to settle.
In the first ten months of the last year, there was an increase of 28.6% in the permanent residents arriving.
In 38 years, Nova Scotia aims to double its population. It plans to attract twenty five thousand new foreign nationals per year. Immigration of people from other regions of Canada will be added to its population.
A total of 8.5% of new PRs (Permanent Residents) were added to the province with the help of Family sponsorship programs. The refugee and protected person programs contributed 5.8% of new PRs.
According to the forecast by Provincial Economic Outlook, TD Economics, the Nova Scotian economy would grow by 4.2% by the end of 2021. In 2022, it will increase by 2.4%.
