Aspiring overseas immigrants looking to study at the Ivy League School can now cheer as the Obama Foundation is offering fellowships to them. The Obama Foundation Scholars Program at the Columbia University will offer pay expenses and stipends to 12 overseas fellows. This will be for studying at the new Manhattanville campus of the university. They will also participate in the civic life in New York simultaneously.

Obama Foundation Chief International Officer Bernadette Meehan said that they are looking out for emerging leaders. They are the ones who are at their career’s tipping points. The prospective fellows must be active in service projects and local organizations. They must take the learnings back with them added Meehan, as quoted by the Study International.

12 overseas immigrants will be offered fellowships for 2018. The intake is from Europe, South Asia, South America, Africa, and Asia. This exhibits the authentic dedication to find real-time solutions to the complex social problems.

The cohort for this year is impressive that includes an NGO offering sanitary care to poor women in Singapore. Others include a foundation in Bulgaria promoting civic engagement through digital tools. A scholar in Nigeria running a firm to enhance transparency in government has also been selected.

David Simas CEO of Obama Foundation said that the young leaders are exceptionally impressive. We have partnered with Columbia for the Scholars Program to live the call for action for changing the world for better, added Simas.

The selected scholars will participate in a yearlong core seminar led by the faculty of Columbia University. They will also have a non-core seminar coursework. This will offer the scholars the option to select 1 or 2 courses at Columbia.
