In an official tweet on December 17, 2020, the UAE has announced the “Steps of renewing residency permits”. The announcement was made by the UAE’s Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship [ICAUAE].
The renewal of a UAE Residency Permit can be applied for online, without the requirement of having to step out for the same.

As per the announcement – made on the official social media channels – the ICA has laid down the step-wise process to be followed for the renewal application. To be completed either through the website or the smartphone application.

STEP 1: Register and create an account. Log in to Smart services in case of prior registration. |
STEP 2: Select the Residence Permit Renewal Service. |
STEP 3: Submission of the application. Review and update the data retrieved. Pay the fees. |
STEP 4: Submit an application for the renewal of the ID card. |
STEP 5: Hand over the passport to the approved delivery company. |
STEP 6: The passport to be labelled with the Residency Permit sticker. Delivery of the passport through the approved delivery company. |
The ICA has also issued certain guidelines to be followed for those applying online for a renewal of their UAE Residency Permit.

The data entered by the individual is subject to review and validation by the ICA. As per the ICA, “Providing valid and accurate data ensures swift processing of your application within set timeframe”. |
As per the ICA online service portal, the renewal of the UAE Residency Permit online will be done within 48 hours.
The documentation required will vary, depending upon the visa category as well as the sponsor [company or family].
Earlier, on November 15, 2020, the UAE has extended the eligibility for the UAE Golden Visa to include many other professions.
In September 2020, Dubai announced the launch of the “Retire in Dubai” programme, a long-term visa for 5 years for retired residents over 55 years old, renewable based on the applicant maintaining their eligibility status.
