Russia is contemplating increasing the length of stay on a Tourist Visa from 30 days to 6 months. The increased Visa stay period will help attract more international tourists to the country according to the Russian Foreign Ministry.
Tourists from all over the world would be able to apply for the Tourist Visa under the new Visa rules. However, they must be able to provide proof of accommodation like a hotel reservation.
Currently, if you want to apply for a Russian Tourist Visa, you must obtain an invitation letter from an accredited Tour Agency listed on the Govt. of Russia’s database.
The Foreign Ministry of Russia is expected to submit the Visa reforms to the lawmakers by the end of this year.
International tourists have often complained about Visa difficulties hindering their trip to Russia.
Yury Barzykin, VP of the travel industry union of Russia, said easing the Visa rules could increase tourism in the country by 10 to 30 per cent or more. This could include relaxing administrative rules, abolishing certain Visa rules or liberalization.
Almost all parties in the Russian lower house of Parliament, except one, had supported the Foreign Ministry’s proposal of easing Visa rules. The Communist Party argued that Russia should lay greater emphasis on improving the domestic tourism sector.
President Vladimir Putin has passed an order to offer E-Visas to tourists from certain countries by 2021.
