The province of Saskatchewan in Canada has held its latest provincial draw under the Provincial Nominee Program [PNP] of Canada.
On February 25, 2021, a total of 299 invitations were sent out by the Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program [SINP] to candidates under the Express Entry SINP category.
Those invited can now proceed to submitting their application for a provincial nomination by Saskatchewan for their Canadian permanent residence.
Candidates with their profiles in the federal Express Entry pool that had filled out an Expression of Interest [EOI] for Saskatchewan might have been invited in the latest SINP draw, provided, however, that they also had a score of 70 on the SINP’s Points Assessment Grid. |
Typically, SINP draws are held on a bi-monthly basis. The previous provincial draw by Saskatchewan was held on February 11, 2021.
In the latest SINP draw, invitations were only issued to candidates that might be eligible for the SINP’s Express Entry category.
Those invited in the February 25 SINP draw had an Expression of Interest [EOI] score of a minimum of 70. They were also required to have work experience in any of the 70 in-demand occupations.

It is through the EOI system that Saskatchewan selects candidates that have the most potential of succeeding in the regional labour market.
The selection of EOIs is limited occupation-wise in order that “nominees with positive employment prospects in Saskatchewan are selected and nominations do not exceed employment demand.”
It is the highest-scoring candidates that are subsequently issued an invitation to apply for a PNP nomination through Saskatchewan. Allotted out of a total of 100 points, the EOI score is as per the International Skilled Worker Points Assessment Grid.
For the EOI score, factors assessed include – education, age, work experience, language ability, and connections to the province.
For an Express Entry candidate, a nomination – through any of the 9 provinces and 2 territories in Canada that are a part of the PNP – is a guarantee of being invited by the federal government of Canada for their permanent residence.
Not all Express Entry profiles are invited to apply for Canada PR. It is only the highest-ranked – based on the Comprehensive Ranking System [CRS] score – that are issued invitations.
Fetching 600 CRS points for an Express Entry candidate, a PNP nomination ensures that they are indeed well placed in terms of their ranking in the pool, thereby being guaranteed an invitation in the next federal Express Entry draw.
In 2020, the SINP invited a total of 8,283 candidates to apply for a SINP nomination for Canadian permanent residence. 3,854 got invitations through the SINP’s Express Entry category.
