Tourists intending to visit Saudi Arabia can now use their existing US, UK and Schengen area visas to get their visitor visas at airports whatever their citizenship.

This move is the latest in a series of steps the country is taking to meet its goal of receiving 100 million visitors annually by 2030. The country intends to make tourism a major source of revenue for its economy.

With the tourist visa, visitors can stay in the country for up to three months per entry and can spend 90 days in a year in the country. The visa is valid for one year and allows for multiple entries.

Tourists who intend to make use of the new regulation must have used any of the visas to travel to any of the mentioned countries before visiting Saudi Arabia.

In a bid to boost tourism, the government had announced e-visas and visa on arrival for citizens from nearly 50 countries.  The massive response to the visa scheme has encouraged the government to extend the e-visa facility to individuals who have a  visa from either the U.S., the UK and the Schengen area.  The visa must however be tourist or commercial visas. These visa holders will not be required to visit any Saudi consulate or embassy for the same.
