South Australia Opens an Additional 70 Occupations to Offshore Applicants

 As per a recent update, South Australia has opened up an additional 70 occupations to “applicants currently residing offshore”. These occupations are available to offshore clients – under South Australia's Skilled Migration Program – from September 28,2021. According to the official News Release, these occupations have been opened up to offshore applicants towards managing “South Australia’s COVID recovery response”.

The minimum requirements for being nominated by a state include – [1] at least 8 years of work experience [either in that specific occupation or in an occupation that is closely related to it], and [2] a proficient plus English level. Do note that each of the occupations on South Australia’s Skilled Occupation List has its own specific requirements.

 

What is South Australia's Skilled Migration Program?  
Depending on the individual situation of the applicant, there are 2 visa options available for skilled migrants looking for a state nomination through South Australia.   Skilled migrants might apply for a provisional or provisional state nominated visa, as per their situation and occupation.   Skilled nominated visas available –   Skilled Nominated visa [subclass 190]: Allows nominated skilled workers to live and work in Australia as permanent residents.   Skilled Work regional [Provisional] visa [subclass 491]: For skilled workers nominated by a state or territory government to live and work in regional Australia.   To be able to apply for a nomination by South Australia, the applicant must be under 45 years of age [at the time of nomination], have secured a valid skills assessment [from the relevant skills assessment authority], and have their occupation listed on South Australia’s Skilled Occupation List.  

 

Prospective applicants will be required to meet the state-specific occupation requirements as well as the requirements of the Department of Home Affairs. Offshore applicants – meeting the minimum published requirements for that specific occupation – might lodge their Registration of Interest [ROI] from September 28, 2021.
