Sri Lanka has approved the revival of the Visa-on-arrival service to tourists from countries like India and China. The Visa-on-arrival service was suspended after the fateful Easter bombings.
On 10th July, the Sri Lankan Govt. announced the revival of the free Visa and Visa-on-arrival programs for 39 countries. This would come into effect from 1st August 2019. However, there was no mention of India and China in the initial announcement.
The Sri Lankan Govt. made another announcement on Wednesday. The Tourism Ministry of Sri Lanka approved the Visa-on-arrival for 10 more countries including India and China.
Here are the countries that can avail the Visa-on-arrival facility in Sri Lanka:
The Visa-on-arrival pilot project was started by the Sri Lankan Govt. as part of a larger initiative to increase tourism in the country. The project aimed at increasing the number of tourists visiting the country especially during the off-season period between May and October.
However, the Visa-on-arrival had to be suspended indefinitely after the Easter Sunday attacks. The Easter Sunday bombings happened on 21st April and rattled many churches and high-end hotels in the country, as per India Today.
