Indian students in Germany for study abroad continue to be on the rise.

As per the official figures by the Federal Statistical Office of Germany, registering a 20.85% increase, there were 25,149 students from India enrolled in Germany in the Winter Semester 2019-20.

As per the German Academic Exchange Service, or DAAD for Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst, the rate of growth in the number of Indian students going to Germany is nearly 5 times that of the global average.  Indian students form the 2nd largest group of international students enrolled at universities in Germany.

Basic Step-wise process for Study Abroad in Germany

STEP 1: Decide what you want to study in Germany

A comprehensive research online is recommended. Go through as many course catalogues that you can find.

Narrow down the universities in Germany as well as study courses.

Choosing the most ideally-suited course is of the utmost importance.

You can also decide upon an alternate country for study abroad as a back-up plan, if required. Exploring country-specific admissions is a good way to begin.

STEP 2: Getting your Documentation Together

Document procurement is an integral part of your study overseas journey.

To apply for a Germany student visa, you will also be required to submit Proof of Financial Resources. Indian students in Germany for study abroad will be required to have at least €861 per month or €10,332 per year in possession. Health insurance will also be needed.

STEP 3: Applying for a Germany student visa

Indian students require a valid Germany student visa before they can enter Germany for study purposes.

Do keep in mind that not all foreign qualifications are recognized by the German education system. A preparatory course, to be attended in Germany before the commencement of the regular course, might be required in certain cases.

Results of a standardized language proficiency test will be needed. A wide majority of undergraduate courses in Germany are offered in the German Language.

Postgraduate courses in Germany, on the other hand, have various study programs taught in English. Some courses at the postgraduate level in Germany might be delivered simultaneously in German and English.
