The city of Sudbury in Northern Ontario has successful recommended 11 candidates in the first year of the launch of the Rural & Northern Immigration Pilot (RNIP).
The selected candidates and their families include a total of 25 members can now apply for Canada PR. The RNIP is aimed at bringing skilled workers from abroad into smaller communities.
The federal immigration pilot program is for a five-year period which aims to help smaller communities that have aging populations and labor shortages by bringing in immigrants. Eligibility requirements for communities to use the program are:
In Sudbury, candidates are put in a pool and ranked based on a points-based system like the federal Express Entry system.
The program covers 20 target occupations which aim to bring in n skilled workers for the mining supply and services and tourism sectors. Applications from any sector will also be accepted provided the candidates are already living in Sudbury.

The employer must be located within Sudbury or be located within a commutable distance. They must have been in active business in Sudbury for at least once a year. They must convince officials that they have made efforts to fill the position with a local candidate.
