In March, a total of 8,816 residence permits were granted by the Swedish Migration Agency. Most of the residence permits have been issued for work purposes only. This makes the number of work permits reach 9,290 in the first quarter of 2023.
As per reports, 3,355 work permits were granted in March, thirty-eight percent of the total number of Sweden residence permit issued.
2,479 residence permits were also issued for family reunification, and 1,748 were given to asylum seekers in March 2023. And for study purposes, 1,878 residence permits were issued by the agency.
In March 2023, the Swedish Ministry of Justice proposed the new passport rule for people applying for work and study permits. As per the new rule, these two categories can get an exemption for not being required to show their passports to the authorities offices.
The measure is intended to avoid long travel distances and will attract more researchers, skilled workers, and doctoral candidates to the country. Also, this new rule will enhance the identity control of the applicants.
