Sweden issued more than 11,000 Residence Permits in July this year. Most of the Residence Permits were granted due to studies.

A total of 4,353 Residence Permits were issued to international students as the autumn semester is soon to start. 3,199 Residence Permits were granted to professionals who moved to Sweden to work. 2,001 Residence Permits were granted to families of immigrants in Sweden.

These included spouses, dependent children, common-law partners and other close relatives. Asylum seekers in Sweden received 1,030 Residence Permits. Citizens of the European Union and European Economic Area accounted for 554 Residence Permits. Citizens of the EU and EEA can live and work in Sweden without a Permit provided they are studying or are employed in the country. However, those who move to Sweden to join their Swedish partners have an option of applying for a Permit.

Sweden issued 1,438 Work Permits to overseas employees of Swedish companies in July.

Only 3 Work Permits were granted to Entrepreneurs. 123 Work Permits were issued to guest researchers while 535 were issued to people linked to international exchange, athletes or internship. 1,099 Residence Permits were issued to those who had a partner on a Work Permit in Sweden. Most of the people who were granted Work Permits were working in Sweden in “specialist” occupations. 726 such Work Permits were issued in July, as per Local Sweden. 149 Work Permits were issued to professionals in occupations requiring a post-secondary education and 132 to those with short-term training.

127 Work Permits were granted to the Construction industry and 101 to the Service industry.

The machine manufacturing and transport industry got 38 Work Permits. 38 professionals in Management roles were also granted Work Permits while 32 were granted to the Agricultural industry. 29 Work Permits were issued for customer service and administrative work. There were 14,965 “open” Work Permit cases by the end of July 2019. This means that there was no decision made on these applications.
