Candidates with an employment and a skills assessment related to any of the critical roles will be prioritized by Tasmania.

Candidates not in a critical role are being considered only after the priority applications for critical roles have been processed. By “critical roles” is implied roles that include – · highly skilled and specialized roles, such as agriculture, supply of essential goods and services, infrastructure engineering and maintenance etc., · providing direct assistance in Tasmania’s COVID-19 response, · providing critical medical services. Tasmania migration does not recognize lower skilled positions – for example, delivery drivers, retail workers, warehouse staff, or harvest labour – as critical roles. |
STEP 1: Eligibility for skilled migration to Australia
The first step would be that of establishing eligibility for skilled migration, as laid down by Australia’s Department of Home Affairs.
The eligibility for skilled migration to Australia includes an assessment of factors such as – age, nominated occupation, English language competency, and points required.
STEP 2: Additional nomination requirements
Here, the candidate will be required to meet the specific additional nomination requirements as laid down by the Tasmanian government.
There are different categories available that an individual might apply under.
Each of the nomination categories available have their own requirements.
STEP 3: Lodging an Expression of Interest [EOI]
Merely an indication of an ‘interest’ in being considered for an Australia skilled visa, an EOI profile – with the Department of Home Affairs through SkillSelect – is not a visa application.
STEP 4: Document Checklist
Ensure that all required documents are prepared and ready prior to applying.
The documentation varies from visa to visa.
Following a state nomination, the next part of the process will be that of continuing the Australia skilled visa application with the Department of Home Affairs. Documents for this part of the process will also have to be prepared accordingly
STEP 5: Applying for nomination
Apply for a nomination through the Tasmanian government.
Currently, the application processing times are up to 3 months.
STEP 6: Applying for a visa
Those successful in securing a nomination by the Tasmanian government — intimated through a notification of outcome and an invitation to apply through SkillSelect – can then proceed to applying for their visa with the Department of Home Affairs.
STEP 7: Maintaining obligations
Those granted a visa will be required to ensure that they maintain all of their obligations towards the Tasmanian government.
