The latest Provincial Nominee Program [PNP] draw by the province of British Columbia in Canada was another of the BC PNP Tech Pilot draws.
On September 22, 2020, as many as 74 immigration candidates were invited to apply for a provincial nomination through the BC PNP. The minimum score required was 80 across all the 4 categories included.
While the previous BC PNP draw was held on September 15, the earlier BC PNP Tech Pilot draw took place on September 8, 2020.
Those invited now have 30 calendar days for applying for the nomination.
In the latest Tech Pilot draw, British Columbia has invited candidates under the BC PNP categories of Skills Immigration and Express Entry BC.
With a quicker processing as compared to other BC PNP applications, candidates issued invitations under the Tech Pilot gain access to a fast-track immigration pathway for tech workers and international students with job offers in any of the 29 key occupations in demand in the province.
In view of the success of the Pilot and with the aim of providing “BC tech employers with the continued ability to recruit and retain international talent when local skilled workers are unavailable”, the BC PNP Tech Pilot has been extended until June 2021.
Overview of the September 22 BC PNP Tech Pilot draw – 74 invitations issued
Category | Minimum Score |
EEBC – Skilled Worker | 80 |
EEBC – International Graduate | 80 |
SI – Skilled Worker | 80 |
SI – International Graduate | 80 |
The Tech Pilot of the BC PNP is not a separate stream or category as such.
To be considered for the Tech Pilot by the BC PNP the candidate will be required to –
Be registered in any 1 of the existing BC PNP streams |
Have a valid job offer of a minimum 12 months’ duration in any of the 29 key tech occupations |
For applying to the BC PNP under the Express Entry BC or Skills Immigration categories, the individual must begin with the creation of their profile through the online portal of the BC PNP, registering themselves under the Skills Immigration Registration System [SIRS] of British Columbia.
Following their successful registration with the SIRS, the applicants are then assessed and a score allotted to them. This score – referred to as the SIRS score – is based on various factors such as their job offer in BC, education, work experience etc.
Express Entry candidates that are able to secure a provincial nomination through the PNP of Canada get an additional 600 points added to their Comprehensive Ranking System [CRS] score.
