Tech firms in the US received the most number of H1B Visas issued in the financial year FY19. Google received 2,111 H1B Visas making it the top recipient of H1B Visas in FY19. Amazon came second with 1,612 H1B Visas. Indian tech giant TCS came third with 1,367 H1B Visas. Tech Mahindra was the only other Indian tech firm which made it among the top 10 recipients. Facebook with 1,132 H1B Visas and Apple with 991 H1B Visas also featured among the top 10 recipients of the H1B Visa.
7 companies out of the top 10 recipients were US technology firms. This clearly reflects the Trump Government’s preference for US companies while granting the H1B Visa. USCIS data revealed that the top 10 companies accounted for 12% of all the H1B Visas issued in FY19. The US issued a total of 88,324 H1B Visas in FY19. The USCIS follows the October to September financial year. The US issues about 85,000 H1B Visas per year.
It is interesting to note that 70% of all the H1B Visas issued are granted to Indians.
These Indian H1B Visa holders are employed either by US technology companies or Indian IT Service exporters. A senior executive at NASSCOM said that technology companies are getting more preference when it comes to granting of the H1B Visas. It has been observed that such companies get a higher share of H1B Visas. It was also observed that H1B rejections for Indian and India-centric companies were at an all-time high.
