The USCIS has announced a new process to apply for the FY2021 H1B Visas. Companies sponsoring H1B beneficiaries will now have to complete an online registration process. While registering, employers will need to provide basic details of the employee and the company.
The US will open the registration period for the FY2021 H1B Visas from 1st March to 20th March 2020. Employers will also need to pay a non-refundable registration fee of $10 for every sponsored employee.
Selected employees in the new H1B process will be able to start work in the US from October 2020.
The upcoming H1B lottery will be based on the new electronic registrations. Employers will need to submit a completed H1B Visa application for only those selected in the lottery.
The US will start accepting H1B Visa applications from 1st April 2020. The annual quota for the H1B Visa would still remain at 85,000. This would include the quota of 20,000 for applicants who have completed their advanced degrees from the US.
The new registration process will save sponsoring employees time. They will not have to submit an extensive application for every employee, just the ones selected in the lottery.
The H1B Visa documentation can be exhaustive. This is especially true for IT companies who place their H1B employees at client sites. These companies have to provide customer service agreements as well as itineraries of their employees.
The Indian IT sector extensively uses the H1B Visa Program. External Affairs Minister of India, S Jaishankar, said that Indians received 1.25 lakh H1B Visas accounting for 70% of the total visas issued in FY2018.
With the new electronic registration system, the USCIS pegs the savings of employers and the USCIS to be in the range of $42.4 million and $66.5 million per year.
Step-by-step instructions about the new registration process and with important dates and timelines will be available near the registration period on the USCIS website.
