For a consecutive fourth year, Finland leads the list as the happiest country worldwide, as per an annual report sponsored by the UN.
Written by a group of independent experts, the World Happiness Report 2021 focuses on the impact of the COVID-19 and how individuals globally have fared in view of the pandemic.
The Report, as per the UN, had a two-fold aim – that of focusing on the effect of the pandemic on the lives of individuals, along with describing and evaluating how governments across the world have dealt with it.
In particular, the Report has tried to find an explanation as to why certain countries might have fared better than the rest.
According to the authors, “people see Covid-19 as a common, outside threat affecting everybody and that this has generated a greater sense of solidarity and fellow-feeling."
The authors came to the finding that Finland ranked high based on the “measures of mutual trust that have helped to protect lives and livelihoods during the pandemic”.
As per the data with the John Hopkins University, Finland, the Nordic nation of 5.5 million individuals fared far better than most of Europe during the pandemic.
