Indians are immigrating to overseas destinations for higher salaries and career progression, as revealed by the latest HSBC survey. The survey also revealed the top 10 highest-paying overseas destinations. Switzerland is ranked number one in the list, with an average annual salary of 202,865 USD for overseas immigrants, including Indians.

• 79 lakh is the average annual salary of Indians working overseas
• Top overseas destinations are Europe, the Middle East, and the Far East
• 31% is the average hike in income for Indians who immigrated overseas
• 64% of Indians working overseas own property in India
• 47% of Indians said that they immigrated overseas for career progression
• 55% of Indian immigrants depend on family and friends for financial advice in comparison with 40% of immigrants in general

The HSBC survey further elaborates that an individual immigrating overseas for work normally adds 21,000 USD to their annual pay. This is adequate to purchase a new car, pay off normal household debt twofold, or cater to 2 years rent.

Germany is the second highest with USD189,693. 

The US is third on the list, with a pay package of 185,119 USD, followed by Hong Kong, with 169,756 USD.

S Ramakrishnan, Head of HSBC India—Wealth Management & Retail Banking, said that immigrating overseas often implies a hike in disposable income.

Discovering new life in an overseas location can be crucial to unlocking your creative potential, says Ramakrishnan. It could also assist in finding work-life balance or advancing a career in a new path, he adds.

However, many overseas immigrants spend their initial months in overseas destinations in stress. This is because they do not plan their finances prior to immigration, explains the Head of HSBC India.

The HSBC survey reveals that Sweden and Germany are the top overseas destinations for creative work ambiance. Meanwhile, the US and the UK are the top destinations for advancing careers.
