The US embassy has made an announcement that in-person tourist visa appointments will start from September 2022 so that people can visit US. The US Mission to India has made an announcement that the placeholders that were scheduled previously will be canceled and new candidates will be allowed for the appointments.
Placeholders whose appointments are canceled do not have to worry as they will also be allowed to enter the scheduling system and get an appointment. The appointments will be open through 2023. The B1-B2 visas will be started after the applications for student visa comes to an end.
Highlights
The appointment slots for B1-B2 visa was given to the applicants who have applied for the first time. Interview waivers are not allowed for these candidates as they are not eligible for them. As the placeholders are not the real slots, the interviews have been canceled. The applicants have to go for new slots through the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services scheduling system.
Applicants who got the placeholder slots also get the opportunity to get an emergency appointment for the interviews. The requests will be approved only if there is a genuine reason. Else, such requests will be canceled. The interviews for B1-B2 visas were stopped since March 2020 due to the pandemic.
The announcement for the resumption of this visa has come as a relief to many of the applicants who have plans to visit the country but the plans are not fulfilled.
