Trump’s immigration policy

59 US CEOs including Apple Inc’s Tim Cook have said the immigration policy being pursued by Trump is detrimental to the US. The immigration policies of the US administration of late are enhancing ambiguity and undermining economic growth. These strong views about Trump’s immigration policy have been expressed by the CEOs in a letter signed by them.

The CEOs signing the letter also include Jamie Dimon of JPMorgan Chase & Co and American Airlines’ Doug Parker. They have said that several of their employees now face ambiguity due to immigration issues. These include incoherent migration decisions likely to curb Work Visas for skilled immigrants’ spouses.

The legitimate review of immigration policies is now being undertaken by the US Federal Government, said the CEOs. It must refrain from changes that upset the lives of 1000s of lawful skilled workers. Changes that result in considerable damage to the competitiveness of the US must also be avoided, adds the letter.

The US administration under President Trump is also pursuing tough immigration policies for Overseas Students. It has also published final policy guidelines for them recently. The overseas students along with their dependents will begin to accrue unlawful presence in the US by default. This is from the very next day their student status has been violated by them, as quoted by the Times of India.

The US Citizenship and Immigration Services has been faulted by all the 59 US CEOs. The USCIS is pursuing inconsistent determinations. These can result in abrupt denials for workers who have been successfully permitted for many years now, added the CEOs.
