Uganda followed in the footsteps of its African neighbours such as Kenya, Rwanda, Zambia and Zimbabwe by introducing an online visa processing procedure for tourists wanting to come to the country.
The Ghana Business News quotes a communication of the Ugandan government, saying that all people wanting to visit Uganda for business, study, tourism and medical purposes would need to apply and get a visa online.
Activated on 1 July, one can apply for all categories of visas online. The government communication states that it would be possible to get visas on arrival from the month of July; however, the traveller needs to go through the electronic application procedure at the entry point in that particular month. From the next month onwards, all visa applications would have to be done online.
It was only recently that Ghana introduced this procedure after taking a leaf out of Rwanda’s book to have a visa on arrival system, which was mooted for all countries in the African Union.
