The Cabinet Ministers of UK have endorsed proposals to implement changes to UK’s immigration policies. Proposed by Sajid Javid, Home Secretary, UK’s new visa system may offer preferential treatment to high skilled migrants.
The new Visa system would work in the best interest of the country. It will also help boost productivity.
The UK plans on implementing the new Visa system after December 2020. This was done because concerns were raised that if the new regime is implemented abruptly, it may disrupt businesses.
Javid’s proposal may also provide leniency to certain low-skilled foreign workers. This will be done specifically for industries which heavily depend on them. The proposal may also grant preferential access to the labor market of the UK to certain regions. Regions that sign free trade deals with the UK would be given access, including parts of the European Union.
Recruiting high-skilled workers will produce more economic growth for the country. The UK defines “high-skilled” workers as someone who has a University degree and earns more than £30,000 per annum.
Immigration numbers add more than 1 million to the UK’s population every 3 years, as per Sputnik News.
