Official data for UK immigration revealed that annual net migration increased to 672,000 in the year ending of June 2023, from 607,000 of the previous year.
The data released on Thursday, by Office for National Statistics, the net migration projection for the year ending in December 2022 was revised up to 745,000, a new record high and up 139,000 from its previous estimation.
According to the ONS, non-EU nationals make up the majority of immigrants, and 253,000 in 672,000 migrants were Indians with workers particularly in the health and social care sectors.
For almost ten years, Britain's political environment has been dominated by high levels of migration, even though it is still at such high levels, it is more than twice the 329,000 figure noted in 2015, ahead of the Brexit vote and will be a crucial battleground once again in the vote expected next year.
There is a need for labor shortages in particular industries in the UK and the requirement to accommodate those traveling under special visa schemes.
The recent net migration data was accounted by majority of migrants arriving for work in order to fill positions in health and care sectors, and the UK is expected to see more immigration from non-EU countries now and in future.
