University of Exeter Program

• The University of Exeter is offering postgraduate degree in magic studies in the UK, for the students who are interested in the fields of crystals, dream board manifesting, and interpretations.
• With a multidisciplinary approach, the program will address a wide range of topics, such as the philosophy, the practice of deception and illusion, the representation of women in the middle Ages, Western dragons in mythology, literature, and art, and archaeology theory.
• The course will start in September, 2024 and will cover the historical and societal effects of magic around the world in an effort to meet the growing interest in these topics.

About the program

• According to Professor Emily Selove, head of the new program and an associate professor of Medieval Arabic Literature told NYT that the idea of the course came from a desire to create a space where research on magic could be studied across academic fields and with the recent growing interest in the history of magic.
• While other colleges have courses and certifications in this discipline, the University of Exeter is the first in UK to provide a full time postgraduate degree connected to magic.
• The course has attracted a lot of attention since it was announced and the institution has received over 100 questions about it.
• Through a combination of traditional and alternative methods, the program enables students to finish their dissertations through performance work.
• Students who complete this course will have acquired qualities such as critical and creative thinking, curiosity, and a dedication to lifelong learning. Modules cover a broad range of fascinating topics, including Islamic philosophy, archaeological theory, palaeography, dragons in Western literature, and King Arthur's legend.
