The U.S. State Department said it has increased its capacity to manage the demand through technology and streamlining services, such as removing in-person interviews for some applicants. The agency issued a record-breaking 205,000 visas to temporary and seasonal workers in agriculture and other sectors and 25,000 employment-based visas in the first quarter of 2024.
The number of immigrant visas also increased rapidly. The agency also broke records by issuing 152,000 green cards to immediate relatives of U.S. citizens, breaking all previous records for the six-month period.
