*Willing to work in the US? Y-Axis is here to provide complete assistance!
An Indian-American Congressman from Michigan named Shri Thanedar introduced a new bill to help foreign students stay in the US after they complete their study program. The new bill, HR 9023, launched under the Keep STEM Graduates in America Act, aims to retain students from the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) field to stay and work in the US.
Under the new bill, the H1-B visa process is to be modified, and the number of visas issued per year is to be increased. The new bill also aims to simplify the H1-B visa application process and make it available to talented students willing to migrate and work in the US.
The US H1-B visa is used by the US employers to recruit foreign professionals having exceptional skills to work in The US for a specific duration. Candidates having a minimum education qualification of a bachelor’s degree are eligible for this visa. Professionals from the field of technology, engineering, finance and architecture apply for H1-B visa. Indian employees willing to work in the US mostly apply for this visa.

The following changes to the H-1B Visa are proposed under the Keep STEM Graduates in America Act:
The current H1-B visa cap for foreign students is set at 65,000 as of 2023. The increase in the number of visas issued annually will help the graduates stay in the US, which would be beneficial for the innovation and expertise of the US. Indian students studying in the US would also benefit from these new changes.
The new bill has been gladly welcomed by The Foundation for India and Indian Diaspora Studies (FIIDS). They have provided the students with an extension in Optical Practical Training, which will allow them more time to find employment before settling for an H1-B visa in the US.
