Saskatchewan is short of workers not jobs

Scott Moe, the Saskatchewan Premiere, highlights his vision of the Saskatchewan Party regarding a new relationship with the federal government. More freedom should be given to the province to set its own immigration targets. The premier wants the business people in Saskatchewan to force Ottawa for a new relationship between Saskatchewan and Canada in the similar way as that of Quebec. The immigration target for Saskatchewan would be raised by 13,000 permanent residents per year under the deal.

Saskatchewan will get more authority for nominating newcomers to migrate to the province. Saskatchewan would also get control over the family class of immigration. Federal resources for settlement services will also be transferred to the province.

Saskatchewan immigration to be increased to 1.4 million

The main component in the Saskatchewan government plan is immigration so that population of the province can be grown up to 1.4 million. The plan also includes the creation of new 100,000 jobs by 2030. Saskatchewan has expectations to meet and exceed the cap of 6,000 under the Saskatchewan Immigration Nominee Program. The province expects that international recruitment may be delayed without the increase of the federal cap.
