Overseas Students in China will now be permitted to work part-time. They can thus now participate in the joyous world of work in between slurping noodles and practicing Mandarin. This has been revealed by the Education Ministry of China through a statement released in the China Daily.
Thomas Linnette an Australian student in China has said that this is a welcome change. It will increase the numbers of overseas students seeking part-time work in China, he added. The 21-year-old is studying at the Tsinghua University. He has already interned at KPMG the consultancy firm. The Australian student is all set to take up another internship at Didi Chuxing an e-hailing company.
China has gradually relaxed its employment policies for Overseas Students. This includes the 2015 Shanghai Pilot program. It permitted internship for overseas graduates from Chinese Universities, as quoted by the Study International.
Overseas graduates in China are also permitted to start a business at the Zhangjiang National Innovation Demonstration Zone. This is for up to 2 years upon their graduation. It was later expanded for a year to permit them doing so while studying.
Similarly, overseas students in Beijing were permitted to work part-time in firms within the Zhongguancun Science Park of the city. This was through the fresh policies launched by the Ministry of Public Security.
In 2017, Post-Graduate students from reputed Chinese Universities were permitted to obtain China work visa. This was directly after their graduation. They were also not required to prove at least 2 years of overseas work experience.
Center for China and Globalization Director Wang Huiyao has said that relaxing visa policies is a sensible move. Graduates can make practical application of their studies, added the Director of the independent think tank. Meanwhile, Chinese firms looking for overseas expansion can benefit from having overseas workers, he added.
