India grabbed the leading place in the US with 3,31,602 international students studying in 2023-2024, 23% more than the previous year. The percentage of Indian students increased by 35.5% in private institutions, whereas in public institutions, the rate increased by 64.5%.

New amendments are made to the Green cards and Work visas applicable from Dec 2024
New changes have been made to the Green card and Employment-based green card. The December visa bulletin released the cut-off dates for the employment-based visa categories. The December bulletin also released the final date of the Family-sponsored immigration. The visa cap under the US family-sponsored visa applications for FY 2024 is set at 226,000.

US Tech Giants increased H-1B Visas by 478%
In the last eight years, major US tech companies such as Amazon, Google, Microsoft, Apple, and Meta have relied more on H-1B visa holders. The use of H-1B visas by Amazon, Google, Meta, Microsoft, and Apple increased by 189 percent, with Amazon leading with a 478 percent increase and Meta with a 137 percent increase. India has invested around $1.1 billion in STEM, working with over 130 colleges and unskilled 255,000 employers and creating over 600,000 jobs in the US.

U.S. issues a record 11.5 million visas - State Department
The US State Department recently revealed that over 11.5 million visas were issued as of September 30, 2024, according to statistical data. The majority of the US visas issued in 2024 were visitor visas for 8.5 million tourists. The US is further aiming to increase the number of tourist visas issued by 8.7% in 2025 and will be issuing 90 million US visitor visas by 2026.

USCIS announced that it would perform system maintenance to the Contact Relationship Interface System (CRIS), starting October 30, 2024, through October 31, 2024. The maintenance will occur from 11:50 p.m. on October 30 until 2:00 a.m. on October 31, 2024.

USCIS announced new rules on the International Entrepreneur Rule effective from 1st October 2024
USCIS recently announced updated guidelines on the International Entrepreneur Rule, which require the increase in investment, revenue, and other thresholds to be notified every three years. The revised investment and revenue amount is effective from October 1st, 2024, and is effective for applications applied before and after that date.
Under this guideline, USCIS describes the required three-year increase in investment, revenue, and other thresholds and how the government will arrange biometrics appointments for applicants outside the country or who choose to receive their parole documentation.

This change applies to lawful PR holders who file for an Application to Replace Permanent Resident Card (Form I-90). Permanent residents who file Form -190 to renew an expired or expiring Green card can also avail themselves of this extension.

The USCIS said that the cap for Master’s has been reached so the second H-1B lottery that will be held will solely be for the regular cap. 140,000 F1 visas were issued to Indians in 2022-23, breaking all previous records by the U.S.
The U.S. dispatched 140,000 F1 visas to Indians between October 2022 and September 2023. Around 600,000 student visas have been issued since 2017 by the U.S. consulate. This signifies the interest of students seeking educational opportunities in the United States. During the same period, the Department of State issued over 10 million non-immigrant visas. There is more demand for foreign travel, as indicated by the fact that half of US consulates exceeded their previous records in non-immigrant visas.

H-2B visa cap met for early 2024 by USCIS
The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services has already reached its limit for H-2B visa applications for temporary non-farming jobs for the first half of fiscal year 2024. As of October 11, 2023, they are no longer accepting applications for positions starting before April 1, 2024. Any H-2B applications for this period submitted after the aforementioned date will not be considered.

When submitting both Form I-129S, rooted in the Blanket L Petition, and Form I-129 for Nonimmigrant Workers, petitioners can expect two separate notifications: a confirmation of receipt and, if successful, an approval notice. The previous practice of getting a stamped and signed Form I-129S and the Form I-129’s approval will no longer occur. Indian- Origin Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi passed a bill to double the H-1B annual intake. The current yearly intake of H-1B visas to said to be 65,000, while the latest bill proposes a total intake of 1, 30,000. Approximately 85,000 workers are hired by the U.S. via the H-1B intake, of which 20,000 are international students and 65,000 are foreign workers.
